Chapter 16. Holding out for a home life
Man-twin, pack up your bags. I, among others, have joined the elite ranks of the Guides and now have the illustrious job of welcoming naked people to this crazy hippie commune.
Which means we now get CUSHY SECTION 4 DIGS. Heat. Air. SPACE in which you can conduct your science and play with your star-friend. Let's get going already and into the lap of luxury.

Boss. Buddy. Pal. Section 4 only has two bedrooms, I'm afraid. So unless you like couches...

Good.
I do not think that is a good option, because that leaves Lotus out as well as putting Genius on a couch. Between Scavenging and patrolling for the Watch I do not have much time to guard, and my patrol is Captain Planet.
I am sorry. I did not mean to.

Well, if this became something we had to do, we would bring Lotus along and we could camp out on their floor. Guard is my duty, not yours; you do your jobs and I'll handle mine. It's not your job to protect everyone, Youth.
It's fine. It's not hard to do.

Is there another way to get into the 4th Section? I only know about Hatchery Guides. It is the job of a friend to protect friends. Especially when I have skills that they do not.no subject
Other than living with someone who has a right to be there, I don't think so? I can ask around with some of the older residents, but I believe hatchery is it.
Yes, comrades do have to protect comrades. They are my comrades too, Youth. If it would make you and Genius feel better, I can live in their house myself, as their guard, to have access to the people we know in the 4th sector.
logic. he has it.
That won't work forever and besides that our house is not an airport! Look it's not just us in danger. If the ninjas attacked Section 4, then everyone else is in danger like my new neighbor Grift. Why not just step up the security for everyone?no subject
What's an airport?
There aren't that many Guards or Watch, and that really would be a task for Watch. I'll talk to Stoneface, but he's going to probably say the same thing: not enough manpower.
You can have a private Guard. That's probably the most I can definitely offer you.

Ah a place where airplanes take off and land. An airplane is like a bus only it flies...Oh wait you don't know what a bus is do you? Look never mind we'll get back to that later.
How can we not have enough manpower? People die all the time! Ya think that would be the one business that's hopping!
Look I don't want to wreak your home life just because Derrick and I didn't think this through.
no subject
A flying boat, perhaps? So an airport would be a dock, or depot for airships?
People die, yes. That's one reason why there are not that many of us who are capable enough to fight and protect. They disappear. We're limited. Watch patrols most areas, and Guard watches the hatchery. There isn't a Watch/Guard in every home unless you have one for a roommate. Youth and I are doubled up here, so you can have one of us.
The kid doesn't want me in his dad's bed anyway.
he misses his tribbles
Ah...that'll work.
Honestly. Do you think this is a trap? Because the more rational part of me thinks it's quite elaborate to go through all these steps to get to me, Derrick and Fred.
Screw the kid. He'll adapt. He's not a baby, he doesn't need Youth with him every minute of the day. You two should be happy. Lord knows there's not a lot of chances for that around here.
poor thing
Not for you three specifically, no. There is, presumably, some reason predating the ninja to explain why we need Guards to protect the hatchery guides, and there is something unnerving about isolating the guides in their own sector, but no, I don't think it's some elaborate scheme targeting you, Derrick and Fred specifically.
You don't live with them. And I think you overestimate our ability to be "happy".
and by sister i meant daughter
Well logically it's a pretty important position considering if someone were to destroy the cocoons then this place would have no way to replenish it's victims. I think the Guards are there just as much for the unborn as the Greeters.
The honeymoon period ended already? Just send the kid out with Derrick sometime. The guy misses his daughter and the kid needs someone to pay attention to him. Match made in heaven if you ask me.
of course. they are so easy to confuse.
Yes, I know that.[A pause in the writing and a pentap]Never mind.
We had a honeymoon? I must have missed that vacation getaway. Though I guess, suite or no, we did manage to fit in the sex.
I don't want Youth to neglect his own kid on my behalf, Genius. But I'll see about having Derrick play sitter for a day or something.
no subject
If you are able to ask that would be good.
I would miss you a lot. But if it keeps them alive...
no subject
I'll see what I can find.
We can always schedule sex in somewhere, and find a babysitter-guard for the mantwins and Fred during that time. Our sex-life doesn't trump their safety.

[There's a pause in the writing.]
oops.
no subject
It's always about something. Relationships are based on exchange, give and receive, people being useful to each other.
no subject
Useful? I am just useful?
no subject
"Just" is too limiting.
But you are useful, and I am useful to you. Part of that usefulness is about sex. Part of your continuing interest in me stems from the sexual knowledge I have, and that you lack. Therefore [pentaps and a pause] we're useful to each other and it is about sex.
no subject
I would miss being around you because I love you. I would miss other things as well, but it does not boil down to sex.
no subject
Ah, right. Well, ok.
